Values, Direction of the Lives of Beautiful People (Rom. 10:11-21)

Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the Living God

Values, Direction of the Lives of Beautiful People (Rom. 10:11-21)

Let us bless and greet one another, “Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the living God.”  I bless you in the name of the Lord that today may be the most blessed day of worship.  The title of today’s worship is, the “Values, Direction of the Lives of Beautiful People.” There is a difference between what humans of the world see as beautiful and what God sees as beautiful.  God and people are different.  There’s a difference between what the Creator God thinks and what the creation thinks.  In today’s scripture, it talks about the feet of beautiful people and the lives of beautiful people, that is somebody who is aligned with God.

What does the Bible say is the greatest problem of all?  The bible says the greatest problem is not being aligned with God.  Even if our head or brain is aligned with God, if our lives, our decisions, our judgments are not aligned with God, that is disobedience and it results in curses.  On the other hand, the life and the feet of beautiful people is the life that receives the Word of God, follows that Word, and receives the answers of that Word being fulfilled.  If there are any of you who are in some kind of situation or circumstance, the only way to resolve it fundamentally is to be aligned with God’s Word.  Then, when that Word enters into me, I hold onto that Word and I have a time of concentration prayer with that Word, all day long.  Every day, throughout the week, you go into prayer holding onto the Word you have received, then the Word of God will be fulfilled.

We do not call praying for whatever we want “prayer.”  Psalm 1 tells us that prayer is meditating on the Word of God.  So, today, on the Lord’s Day, if you have victory in worship, it means that the Lord’s Word is established in you, and you go into prayer all day long with that Word.  For students who are studying or people who have jobs, this Word must go into their school and their work.  Then, those studies and that work will be used by God.  There’s a difference between us doing well and what God believes is “doing well.”

1. Anyone

  1) Who believes in Jesus (Rom. 10:11)

In today’s scripture, Rom. 10:11, it says, “Anyone who believes in Him will not be put to shame,” and there is no discrimination here, it says, “anyone,” anyone who believes in Jesus Christ.  Then, they will receive salvation, in other words, they will not live a life of shame.  There are situations where we face shame in our lives.  That’s not because we want to be put to shame; we have no choice but to do that as we live our lives.  In the book of Philippians, it says anyone who puts their trust in themselves instead of in the Lord will face shame, so the Word of God is so important.  Not the words of people, but the words of God.  When that becomes our standard, then our lives will change.

When the Word of God enters into us, Heb. 4:12 says it heals our thoughts, our mind, and our body.  No matter how great the problem is, when the Word comes in, it will change.

    (1) The same Lord is Lord – God, Jesus (Rom. 10:12)

So, who do we believe in today?  The One True Lord.  The Triune God is One, He is our Lord, and He is our God.

    (2) Lord of all (Rom. 10:12)

Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.  “Calling on the Lord” means they confess their faith.  That doesn’t just mean they are saying the word, “Lord,” with their mouth, but it is coming from your heart and it is bursting out from inside of you in faith.  Cain murdered his brother Abel, and there was a third son named Seth, and in Gen. 4, it says the descendants of Seth called out to the Lord.

    (3) Old Testament – Israel, New Testament – All peoples

In the Old Testament, only the Israelites called out to the Lord.  But after the cross of Jesus Christ, all the peoples of the world will call Him, “Lord.”

  2) Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord (Rom. 10:13)

    (1) Will be saved (Rom. 10:13)

    (2) Believe (Rom. 10:14)

    (3) Have to hear (Rom. 10:14)

    (4) Someone preaching (Rom. 10:14)

    (5) They are sent (Rom. 10:15)

In today’s scripture, it talks about the four steps of salvation.  Rom. 10:14 says, “Whom can they call upon the One they have not believed in?”  But in order for us to believe, we must hear, because how can we believe in One from whom we have not heard?  But how can I hear from someone?  It means there must be someone who is proclaiming this to me, and it’s not just anyone who proclaims, but the one who is sent by God.  So, if I have received the gospel and I have received salvation, this means it has come all the way from God and the One He has sent.  Your life must be inside of this, that is how you are aligned with God.  Your job, your studies, and everything you do must be inside of this stream, then you will be aligned with God.  If you’re not aligned with the Word of God, it means you are living your life according to what people think is good.  The reason the Israelites failed is because they lived according to what they saw was fit.

In today’s scripture, it says, “Unless they are sent,” God sent Jesus Christ to this earth.  Even Jesus Christ did not come to earth by His own volition; God the Father sent Jesus Christ on the earth to proclaim the Word.  So, for the people who heard the Word of Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit worked upon them, they began to believe.  In the same way, Jesus Christ says, “Now I am sending you into the world.”  For the people who are able to hear and understand these words, their work and their studies will have the Word of God in them.

  3) How beautiful are their feet (Rom. 10:15)

    (1) Those who bring good news (Is. 52:7)

    (2) Proclaim peace, Bring good tidings

    (3) Proclaim salvation, Feet of those who say that God reigns (Is. 52:7)

People who realize, “I’m not going into the world to study or to work, I am the one who God has sent into the world.”  Then, your feet will be beautiful, just like the Lord’s.  I bless you in the name of Christ that you will become people like that.  Imagine how amazing it is to proclaim this good news to people!

The background of this word, “Beautiful,” is from Isaiah 52:7.  The Israelites were living as captives to Babylon for 70 years.  Then, after 70 years, the Israelites must go back to Israel, and someone must declare this news.  This begins in Isaiah 52:1, it says, “Awake Zion,” or Israel, “Clothe yourself with strength,” and “Shake off your dust.”  For this is what the Lord says, you were sold for nothing, and without money, you will be redeemed.  This means to get rid of the things that were enslaving you to sin, to Satan, and this world.

Isaiah 52:7 says, “Who proclaim peace and who bring good tidings,” they proclaim salvation and good tidings.  “How beautiful are the mountains on the feet of those who bring good news, who say to Zion, ‘Your God Reigns,’ how beautiful are the feet of those who take this good news and proclaim them to others.”  The people of the world are enslaved under Satan and suffering from sin, so go to them and proclaim this good news.  Then from God’s perspective, those are beautiful footsteps.  If these words are aligned with you who are living in America, then God’s works will begin with you, now.  However, if these words do not enter into you, you will be a captive: to money, to your own thoughts, a captive to your scars and traumas.  You will be captives, always dragged around by what people say.  “Without realizing it, I became captive to alcohol, drugs, or gambling.”  Why is that?  It’s because the good news of the gospel has not entered yet.  When this gospel goes in, then you are set free from all.  How beautiful are the footsteps of those who proclaim this good news.

“Oh, Pastor, what do you mean by ‘footsteps’? I’m having a hard time surviving myself.”   But you can begin right now.  It doesn’t have to be big footsteps, but if the Word of God comes upon you, then pray with that Word all day long.  Then, you will receive amazing strength, you will receive strength to overcome the world, and from the fundamentals, you will receive strength that overcomes your addiction.  Then, the evil spirits that were working upon you will begin to run away.

This is something even Trump cannot solve, this is something that a Harvard graduate cannot solve.  No matter how Americanized you become, you cannot solve this problem.  Only the Word of Jesus Christ can set you free.  How thankful should we be?

2. Those who do not accept the Gospel

There are people who’ve heard this gospel and yet rejected it.  It’s not that they never heard, they did.

  1) Faith (Rom. 10:17)

    (1) Hearing (Rom. 10:17)

Romans 10:17 says that faith comes from hearing the message.  If you don’t hear something, how can you believe in it?

    (2) Word about Christ (Rom. 10:17)

Not only hearing, but the message is heard through the Word about Christ.  It’s not the Word of the Law.  The Word of the Law might be needed inside of the process, but it’s not the main essence.  The Word of the Law gives you the standard of what to do and what not to do.  But the Jewish Israelites thought they could become righteous and receive salvation based on the standard of keeping the Law.

    (3) Cross – Freedom from sin, death, authority of Satan

Simply put, in today’s terms, it doesn’t matter how good your thoughts are or how perfect your actions are; you cannot be set free from sin and Satan.  What is the “sin” the Bible tells us about?  It is disobeying or disbelieving in God.  Because of that Original Sin of not believing in God, we commit acts of sin.  You think because you didn’t do anything bad, you don’t have any sin, but your disbelief itself is sin.  That becomes a channel through which Satan works.  That’s why, when the Word of Jesus Christ goes in, you receive faith.  In other words, you are able to overcome the authority of sin, death, and Satan.

People ask, “I received the gospel, why am I still like this?”  The moment we are born, we have this state of not believing in God.  A newborn baby is so cute and adorable, but inside of them, they have the nature of opposing or rejecting God, then Satan holds onto them, but we don’t see that.  But how is that revealed?  They reject the Word of God and they try to live according to their own thoughts.  That’s why the parent and the child begin to bump heads, because the baby has what it wants to do and the parent has what they want the baby to do, and if either of them have the correct Word of God, there will be a change, but the adult generation was worshiping idols.  Then Exodus 20 says that God will pay the price of their sin for three to four generations.  And if there is idolatry that serves a lot of idols and worships these idols, then evil spirits enter.  These are things that we experience without knowing it from the time we are born.

For example, fortune-tellers will have many fortune-tellers in their family line because of the curses of their idol worship.  If you go to Pico, there’s a Hispanic shaman, and her father was a shaman as well.  She said around when she was in middle or high school, without even realizing it, she was turning off the lights and lighting candles in her room, and she was saying, “One day, without even realizing it, I realized I was healing people and cursing people.”  So, especially for families with a lot of idol worship, the evil spirits will work strongly in their family line.  And, the specific ideologies and the values of the parents get relayed to their kids, but that’s not God’s Word.  So, people hold onto this firm idea of what they think is right and what they think should happen, then they face a shock or trauma or scar.  Why do they have no choice but to be shocked like this? Because they were holding onto what they think is right, but what I think is right cannot overcome the circumstance I’m facing.  It must be only the words of God’s covenant for the circumstances to turn into answers, but when this person is scarred, Satan uses this scar to control that person.

So, in the area where this person was scarred when they were very little, they will become very immature and childish, even if they’re in their sixties.  Let’s say, for example, you immigrated here as a child and were bullied or outcast in school, then that remains inside of these people as a scar for their whole lives.  It’s because I have something in me that left me no choice but to be scarred.  If you have depression, it means there’s something inside of you that leaves you no other choice but to be depressed.  If you are facing your limitations, it means there is something inside of you that leaves you no other choice.  It’s not happening out of nowhere; it was already inside of me since I was young.

So, even though we’ve heard the gospel, it has not been rooted inside of me, yet.  Once that gospel is rooted inside of me and then I face a circumstance, it turns into an opportunity and a chance.  So, from my perspective, it looks like an answer, but that person says it’s too hard.  Then that person will probably say, “Pastor, you’re only speaking so easily because that is not your life.”  Then, do you think I’ve never faced anything difficult?  It means there’s a circumstance inside of you that leaves you no choice but to struggle.  What is that circumstance?  It means you have your own standard of what is right and how you want to live your life, and when you face this circumstance, it looks too difficult.  On the other hand, if the standard inside of you is the words of the gospel, when you face the same situation, you’ll see it as an answer.  “Oh, my job is too hard,” you have something inside of you that leaves you no choice but to have a hard time.

Joseph went in as a slave.  Some people might think, “His life is too hard,” but Joseph saw this as an answer.  Then, what can change this person like that?  Do you think he went to church diligently? Or is it because he had multiple generations of Christians in his family?  No, it’s because the gospel, the standards of God were rooted deeply inside of him.  When people face a crisis, they fall into despair, but when they have the words of the gospel rooted inside of them, the crisis looks like an opportunity.  “Oh, the people at work are giving me such a hard time,” it’s because you have your standards.  But, you can change that into an opportunity and an answer. Through this opportunity, I can go into the power of God, I can go into prayer, why?  Because I’ve faced my limitation, so if anything, through this person, God is revealing my limitation so I can concentrate on praying to God.  Then, actually, the person who is tormenting me is good because they allow me to experience these blessings.

You get married and your spouse just doesn’t get along with you?  They shouldn’t; of all the billions of people in the world, there’s not a single person who aligns with anyone else, but your standard is that you got married to this person because you thought that you could get along.  You thought that you had to get along in order to be happy, but that standard inside of you is not from the Bible, and because you guys are not getting along, it’s so hard, but actually, that difficulty is an answer.  It’s an opportunity to change your standards to be correct.  The more you do not get along with your spouse, the more you will look to God, and then when you actually look to God, you will actually get along.  So, how thankful should we be?  But if you’re not receiving these kinds of answers, it means there is something else rooted inside of you instead.

  2) Did Israel not hear? (Rom. 10:18)

    (1) Heard the Gospel (Rom. 10:18)

    (2) Their words to the end of the world (Rom. 10:18; Ps. 19:4)

    (3) They did not believe (Rom. 10:16)

Rom. 10:18 says, “Did [the Israelites] not hear?”  Of course they did.  “Their voice has gone out into all the earth,” So even if they hear, they’re not able to really hear it, because they have a different standard.  Because they thought they could receive salvation by keeping the actions of the Law, no matter how much they heard the gospel, they couldn’t really hear it.  People who have accomplished success with their own strength,  it’s hard for them to understand the gospel because they’ve accomplished success with their own strength.  So, their standard is their strength and their abilities, not the gospel.  Then, there’s one thing they cannot do: they cannot solve the curses that come as a result of their disbelief in God. They cannot block the works of Satan, then one day, even after they succeed, their spirit collapses.

What is success?  True success is being able to be used so that God’s will is fulfilled.  But if your life is irrelevant to God’s will, even if you succeed, that’s failure.  So, everything you’ve heard and learned from the world, you need to change it into God’s Word.

  3) Did Israel not understand? (Rom. 10:19)

Rom. 10:19 says, “Did Israel not understand?”  They heard, but they weren’t able to understand.  They heard but didn’t understand the gospel.  For people who have set the standard on themselves and are self-centered, they don’t understand that everything is finished on the cross.  “I have to work hard still, I just have to work hard and succeed in life,” that person doesn’t need the cross, but one day, they will face their time.  They will come to a time when they cannot live with their own strength, for we are the creation.  There is a Creator God Who is moving the entire world, and when I go into His control, that is when I begin to change.  Even today, why do we have mental illnesses?  It’s because we think, centered on ourselves, then the devil knows this, that’s why he puts self-centered thoughts inside of us.  He says things like, “The FBI is chasing after me,” or, “There’s a UFO circling around,” these thoughts do not come from out of nowhere.  As this person lived their life, thinking centered on themselves, evil spirits worked and they were deceived by those thoughts. Sometimes what they see is actually evil spirits; sometimes it’s just hallucinations, but people who trust their own thoughts will face their limitation in some way.

    (1) Those who are not a nation – Gentiles (Rom. 10:19)

Rom. 10:19, God said, “I will make [the Israelites] envious by those who are not a nation.”  During this time, in the Temple while they were worshiping, the Israelites and the Jews did not have much of an emotional reaction, but they saw the Gentiles who had received the gospel, praying and singing and worshiping with fervor, so the Jewish people thought, “These are Gentiles; what are they doing here?”  But they would come to Israel and praise the name of Jesus Christ, and only the Jews would be blinking there, blank-mindedly.  The Gentiles would be proclaiming and testifying of how their lives had changed since they believed in Jesus Christ.

    (2) Make Israel envious (Rom. 10:19)

Why is God allowing that to happen?  To make the Israelites envious, this is in Deut. 22:21.  God is saying, “You did this to Me, so I will do this to you as well.”  In that scripture, it said the Israelites stoked God’s envy with things that are not God, that they stirred up God’s wrath and anger with things that are useless. These are the things the Israelites did before God first.  So, they made Him jealous by their foreign gods and angered Him with their worthless idols.  “I will make them envious by people who are not a people, I will make them angry by a nation that has no understanding,” so God is saying, “I will skip over the Israelites, and now, I will give salvation to people who do not even look for God.”  God is saying, “I will bless the Gentiles who do not even know Who God is.”

    (3) Make Israel angry (Rom. 10:19)

The reason He is doing this is to make them envious and angry.  So, a lot of new believers receive so much grace, but people who have believed for a long time, they live their walk of faith out of habit.  I’mt not saying it’s always like this, but if this is the situation, then when a new believer comes and is praising God and saying, “My life has been changed, my life is different,” then the long-time believers will look at them with a blank mind, saying, “Why didn’t that happen to me?” and if they keep looking at that new believer, they get angry and maybe if it’s too much, they get annoyed about that.  God is doing that on purpose for you to restore correct faith, for you to root down in the correct words of the gospel, then you will realize that this is God’s message to you.

In reality, we’re all new believers. We need to live our entire lives as new believers always.  When you say, “I have been a long-time believer,” then you begin to make mistakes.  Every day when you wake up, you must begin anew in front of the cross of Christ.  I might have lived my life for a long time, but today, may I be crucified on the cross, and may the life of Jesus Christ live within me.  You renew yourself every day before the cross.

You hold onto the Word God gave you for the week and you think about that as well.  You pray so that the people who meet you today can receive that blessing as well.  If you don’t have the mentality that other people will be blessed through you, then you will live your life enslaved, wanting to get blessings from other people.  If you think,  “This person will give me half and that person will give me half, and we’ll support each other,” that’s not what the Bible says.  We have already received all of our blessings in Christ, because Christ is with us, the Almighty One is with us; He is with us forever—do you need anything else, then?  If you need anything else at all, it means you are not regarding God.

What do you think about that?  What is the color of your faith?  Are you completely satisfied with Christ alone right now?  If you’re not fully satisfied with Christ alone, it means He is not your Christ.  Then, you have no choice but for your eyes to wander, and God does not like that.  When your eyes wander somewhere else, that is how Satan enslaves you.  Think about this very carefully, the Triune God is with me, what more do I need?  I’m not saying you don’t need anything else, but the Lord knows it all, and the Lord is the God Who can create something out of nothing because He has the power of creation.

No matter how large of a problem I’m facing, He is the God with the power of re-creation Who can change that.  Then, the color of your faith is, what is the reaction of faith that you give to that Lord?  We can say that we are satisfied with God alone, but we can only get to that point if we believe.  But some people think, “I don’t have money, I have problems with my kids and problems in my family; how can I be satisfied with God alone?”  You must have faith in His Word, then your problems will no longer seem like a problem.  For a little child, everything is a problem.  But the only way that everything will not be a problem is if he trusts in his mom.  The beginning of all problems is that we do not trust in the Triune God, and instead, you put your trust in yourself.  Because you keep on relying on yourself, one day, you face your limitations.

3. God

  1) Gentiles – Revealed (Rom. 10:20)

    (1) Those who did not seek God (Rom. 10:20)

    (2) Found by those

    (3) Those who did not ask for God (Rom. 10:20)

We receive faith in our God by hearing His Word.  When you hear His Word, do you hear the words of His Law, or do you hear the words of the gospel?  The Word of God is the Word of God, but did you hear the Word of God that Christ has finished everything and is completely sufficient, or did you hear the Word that Christ is lacking?  The words of the gospel leave the forces of darkness trembling and shaking; is that the Word you have heard or not?  And who is the one who proclaimed the Word to you?  Did God send you this person to give you the correct gospel so that you may have the correct faith or not? This is everything.

You need to finish everything with God alone.  “Oh, but I have so many problems,” do you think God doesn’t know?  God is still with you and He is your Father, He has prepared everything perfectly until you go to heaven, but the devil continues to attack your thoughts and your heart with disbelief.  The devil works through your channels of disbelief, and that’s why making your confession of faith is so important.  Christ has finished everything on the cross.  “Everything is finished” means, from the moment of my salvation all the way until the very end of my soul, everything is finished.  Then, in the midst of that, I am living today, and the Lord is with me now.

I hope we will have the blessing of our internal standards changing.  I lived my life as a nonbeliever for a long time, so the system of my thoughts are centered around me, and every time we go to a conference or a retreat, Satan works on me.  “Oh, that person knows me but they didn’t greet me.”  In the past, I wouldn’t be able to give a message because I was so afflicted by that, because Satan knows exactly what presses my buttons and keeps on working, because he knows what’s inside of me.  “Oh, that person knows me so they should greet me,” but if I think about that carefully, that’s not even true.  If God doesn’t allow that person to greet me, then we just don’t greet each other, and if there’s no reason for me and this person to interact, then God allowed that to happen, and then they ended up greeting me on the very last day.  But we get so afflicted because of our very silly standards, and the reason why you get into conflicts with your kids is because you want to control them fully, but now they’re talking about.  Why do I have to control them?  God needs to control them.

So now, Satan enters inside of us with all of these incorrect things inside of us, and he creates war.  Why do you need to have money?  God says He fulfills your needs, but you always have to have X amount saved up, but the Bible says He will give you what you need, every day.  And, do not worry about tomorrow because God will take care of tomorrow on His own, but inside of us, we’re imprinted with a need to prepare for the future, so we’re always worried.  Just live today and be satisfied with that, and what about tomorrow?  Tomorrow will become today as well, so every day will be today.  So, when the Word of God is imprinted inside of you, even your worries will go away.

  2) Israel (Rom. 10:21)

    (1) A disobedient people (Rom. 10:21)

    (2) Obstinate people (Rom. 10:21)

    (3) God held out his hands all day long (Rom. 10:21)

Let’s say you have a disease, “Oh, God, how could you let me have this disease?” Then you just have to find the reason why God allowed you to have that disease. “Oh, this is actually an important opportunity for blessing, for my spirit to concentrate on God.”  There’s apparently a car that crashed and multiple people died on their way to Early Morning Prayer, and people said, “How could God do that?”  In other words, that person is asking, “If God is alive, then how could He allow this van that was going to Early Morning Prayer to get into an accident?”  The person who asked me that was a Caucasian lawyer and they said, “That’s why I can’t believe in God,” and someone should have been able to explain this to them, but no one could.  “Everybody dies once, whether somebody dies from a disease or old age or an accident, everybody dies.  So, the ways people die are very diverse; some people might die in war, but the One Who holds onto your life and your death is God.  Whether you die from a car accident, everyone is bound to die once, but do you believe in Christ?  If yes, then they go into eternal heaven.”

But our standard is, they must die in a pleasant way.  We have our own standard that, “If I believe in God, I have to die in a peaceful and calm way with no diseases.”  But if that were the case, then everyone would just be carried up to heaven in chariots of fire like Elijah was, but our standards keep on opposing or rejecting God.  “Why do I have to get money like this?”  God is a God Who fills your need, so God is giving you according to your need.  So, my standards are actually wrong, and if we change our standards, we will see God’s answers.  If you’re not able to see God’s answers, it means you’re looking with the wrong standards. We are children of God, and God will take care of us.  He guides us, and He works upon our prayers because I’ve become a child of God through Jesus Christ.  There’s nobody who can block that, because God is holding onto us firmly.  If you find this believable, then it doesn’t matter if you go into danger, or wherever you go.

  3) Beautiful people

    (1) Thoughts, Heart

So for us, the beautiful people are the ones who are aligned with God in their thoughts and their heart.  Then, the direction of our lives, our footsteps, will be aligned with God. In other words, we will be aligned with a God Who sends, but we have failed because of our “correct” opinions. It’s not about what I think is right—it is about the words of Christ.

    (2) Direction of life

Then He says, “For you,” for you who are alive with your thoughts, with your heart, and your spirit with the Word of God, He says, “Go, I will send you, go out into the world where you are studying and working.”  Where will you go?  Will you study diligently and make a lot of money?  No, go and make disciples of all nations.  “Oh, then should I not work hard?”

    (3) One with the one who sent us

If you’re aligned with God, then God will work hard and God will give you answers as you need, that’s why you must be aligned with His Word.

Conclusion

1. Go (Mt. 28:19)

2. Make disciples of all nations (Mt. 28:19)

3. Baptizing and teaching them, To obey everything (Mt. 28:19-20)

For students and professionals, you  must be aligned with this Word, then He says, “Go and baptize them,” people go to church to be baptized.  Teach them the words of Christ and help them to obey.  The process of missions and evangelism is, you go out, proclaim the gospel to someone, bring them into the church, have them be baptized and established so they can rise up in the name of Jesus Christ, and then go out and make more disciples.  Then, if you have a role inside of the church, you can understand, “This is the work of God that I’ve been given.”  That’s evangelism, because now this person will be raised up and go out to proclaim the gospel.

4. With you always with all authority in heaven and on earth (Mt. 28:18,20)

As you are doing this work, the One Who has all authority in heaven and on earth will be with you always.  That means, power and authority will follow you around always, why? Because God is the One doing the work.  I bless you in the name of Jesus Christ that throughout the week, your values and direction will be aligned with the words of Christ and that you will be a beautiful people.
