Those Who Possess Strength from Heaven (Acts 2:1-13)
Let us bless and greet one another, “Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the Living God.” May God’s unprecedented blessings be upon you today. The title of today’s message is, “Those Who Possess Strength from Heaven.” Every method we learn in the world is with the strength of the world, so the people of the world will research and teach all of the strategies or methods to survive in the world, but human beings cannot live with the things of the world. Humans are spiritual beings so we must receive the strength that comes from heaven to rule over and subdue this world. Why do people of this world struggle and suffer and commit suicide? That’s what happens when spiritual beings cannot receive spiritual strength. This is an answer that you personally and your family need.
What exactly is the strength from heaven? It is talking about the power that God gives you. What happens if you have this power? It becomes the strength to overcome all things. People in this world are suffering through many things like mental illnesses and scars, and we cannot change people through the methods we learned in the world. That’s why people keep falling into mental problems and obsession. How does Satan move the people of the world? Satan moves us with the thing called, “me”, centered on myself, on what I desire. Because our spirit is dead, we cannot communicate with God, so we have to live according to our own thoughts, we have to live with our own plans, and we must live for what we desire. That is what is written in Genesis 3 and 6. But if we try to accomplish what we want, will that happen? Even if I do accomplish what I want, my life will not take place because all of my standards are centered on me. If I get what I want, I’m happy, but if I don’t, I’m sad and depressed. That is the method with which Satan moves us, and Satan moves us from behind the scenes towards the success we desire, and Satan makes us live, united with other people to maintain our success. But the result is collapse. We live our entire lives, but if we do not have the spiritual mystery, that will be the result. In order to try and solve this problem, people look for religion, or idols, or meditation. But the more that happens, people receive spiritual problems. What does that mean? It means that Satan begins to work with that crack.
Satan and demons begin to work through things like religion, idolatry, meditation, and demon possession, and even as we go to church, if we don’t have the spiritual mystery, we will be overtaken by it. In 1 Cor. 10:20, it says, “I do not want you to participate with demons.” If you pray or give offering or sacrifices without the name of Jesus Christ, then that becomes a channel for evil spirits to enter you, then what happens? You will be ensnared by six snares. From that point on, things will not go your way. If you get a scar, then things cannot go your way after that, because, why did you get that scar? We have no choice but to receive a scar if we live centered on ourselves without God. If you have a mental problem right now, it means you already had a scar long ago. If you have a mental problem, then it means you cannot think correctly. If you receive a mental problem or a scar, then all you can think about is yourself. The pattern of all of your thoughts is centered on you. We are in a position where we cannot even think of the other person’s perspective. “Why did that person say this to me?” “Why did my parents do this to me?” “Why is that person trying to pick a fight with me in the church?” Or, when you go out into the world, “why is that person treating me like this?” Yes, you are correct, but what is the real problem? You are your own god, you are the standard, it means you cannot permit this, that is the channel through which evil spirits enter.
So, Satan makes us live according to what I desire and what I think, but things do not go according to my thoughts. You must know this, and if the parents are like this, then they will directly influence their children. At a minimum, if you do not want to receive scars, you must be able to think from the other person’s perspective, but we are so bound by our own thoughts, we cannot think of the other person’s perspective. Even if we thought, “Why did my parents say this to me? They must have their own point of view,” then we would not receive scars, but we cannot think like that. Satan controls our thoughts so we cannot think like that, so we say, “I received a scar,” and that scar lasts our whole life, and it’s not just a scar—evil spirits come in and live through that. If you have a scar, then it makes you angry. This rage does not come from nowhere, you are filled with anger because of your scars, then what happens? Eph. 4:26-27 says that Satan uses that to build his home. Then, evil spirits will use that scar to control “me.” All of the shootings in America are caused by this. People kill others and kill themselves and it’s all connected to their scars, evil spirits. This cannot be solved without the gospel.
Why do I have to believe in Jesus Christ? If I do that, will I receive money or success? If you want money and success, you don’t need to believe in Jesus, because nonbelievers can also make money and success. But you can do things that humans cannot do. Jesus Christ finished everything on the cross. What exactly did He finish? Humans are born in a state that is separated from God because of sin, so their spirit is separated from God and it is dead. So, Satan controls that spirit and moves it. That is the fundamental problem with which all humans are born. We cannot solve this with money. Every human being is born in that state. That is why Jesus Christ Who is God Himself had to come to earth to die on the cross to solve our fundamental problems, resurrect, and live as life in those who believe. If we do not know what our fundamental problem is, it doesn’t matter even if we go to church, because we’re holding onto the wrong problem and trying to solve that. Whatever problem you see with your eyes comes from the fundamental problem. In other words, every problem comes from not believing in God, and believing in my thoughts instead. Even if we believe in Jesus, as soon as we face a problem, we try to solve that problem instead of looking for God’s plan. And that is the beginning of every problem.
What is the standard to finish all problems? “Why did God do this? Why did God allow this mental problem in my family? Why did God allow someone in my family to commit suicide?” Only God has the answer, even if you look in books, it will not give you an answer. When people receive a mental problem, they fall into obsession; instead of turning their direction to God, they keep obsessing with their own thoughts; that’s the way Satan controls us. Then, they fall into addiction. Any addiction to substances is the result. But the real, fundamental and spiritual cause to all of those problems is us lacking Christ. It doesn’t matter what kind of program we try to enter to solve our problems, if our spiritual state is not changed, the problem will repeat. Our spirit must fundamentally be united with God, and that state must be maintained.
1. Day of Pentecost
In Acts 2:1, it says the day of Pentecost came. Why did they mention this? Because there is a specific time when God works. It is not our time; it is God’s time. Why do you think God gathered us here to worship? This is the time for God to work. If we lose hold of worship, then we fail in life. There may be some of you who are doubting that. What will fail in your life? You will lose hold of all of the spiritual blessings from God. If you’re holding onto the physical things like eating and making a living, that’s not the real spiritual blessing. That’s something God will give you if you just believe in Jesus; we must restore the spiritual blessings, we must become the spiritual summit. I may not be the physical president, but I can be the spiritual president. There are shamans and fortunetellers who are controlling politicians because they are the spiritual summit in the bad sense. Then, they will control them with evil spirits and cause everybody to fail. When we receive the filling of the Holy Spirit, we become a spiritual summit as well, then we play the role of correcting people’s paths.

What is the Pentecost? In the Old Testament, there were three feasts, and it was the law that, during those three feasts, all Israelite males over 20 must travel to Jerusalem, that is when the works of God’s Holy Spirit took place. And this work of the Holy Spirit was promised to them by God. This was the first time the Holy Spirit came upon them.

(1) Those who saw Christ’s death and resurrection
(2) Those who received the mission for the work of God’s Kingdom
(3) Those who wait for the Holy Spirit coming from heaven
Today, when we believe in Jesus Christ, the Holy Spirit dwells within us. But the filling of the Holy Spirit like in today’s scripture is talking about the power of the Holy Spirit upon us. Presbyterian churches believe that, because the Holy Spirit came upon us once, we do not receive it again. The Pentecostal churches believe, “No, you must continuously receive the working of the Holy Spirit.” However, the bible shows us that we must receive the filling of the Holy Spirit every day and every time; in Acts 2 it happened, and again in Acts 4. This is talking about the power that comes from heaven. We must have the power from heaven in order to be a witness of Jesus Christ to the ends of the earth.
3) Ten days of concentration
(1) From heaven (Acts 2:2)
So the members of the Early Church prayed holding onto God’s promise for ten days. If we enter into a spiritual state that is centered on God’s promise, then we have already escaped from our obsession, but most people cannot concentrate. Even right now, you may be sitting here, but your thoughts are dragged elsewhere. Students cannot study in this kind of state, and we cannot focus on our business in this state. So, if you concentrate on God, then all of the power is contained in that. Do you understand what I mean when I say, “obsession”? Even right now, as you sit here, your thoughts will go elsewhere so you’re not really concentrating on God. Even right now during worship, if you’re able to concentrate on God, then at that moment, your spiritual state is changing.
There was an old believer, and this was an adult who had ADHD. Even though they were older, they could not hold a conversation for more than five minutes without wandering around, so they couldn’t have any deep conversations. But strangely enough, anytime they came to worship, they were able to concentrate for one hour. Do you know what happens when you concentrate on the word of God? Everything that’s inside of you gets restored, because all we do is look at the almighty God and our state begins to change. But what happens if our thoughts are obsessed? It means your thoughts and your heart are divided. Your thoughts and your heart place separately. So how do you think that a student will be able to study with that? And what kind of work can be accomplished in that state? Your thoughts and your heart are separate. “I want to work but I can’t do that,” then you cannot succeed in anything. It’s the same thing in the world. Even the elites of the world will move their thoughts and hearts in one direction, but they will have spiritual problems later. Because they have to force their thoughts and hearts to move in one direction, they will have spiritual problems, and the more elite somebody comes, they force it with their own strength and their spiritual problems get deeper. Then, it doesn’t matter if they go to a psychologist or psychiatrist, it doesn’t matter if they try to get a psychiatrist’s help because it is a disease of the spiritual state. It is a problem that is caused by not having a relationship with God. Our spirit must be connected with God. We cannot see God, we cannot touch God, but He does exist, so the way that connects us with God is His Word. We can read and we can be aware of God’s Word.

The members of the Early Church concentrated on God’s Word for ten days, then the power of the Holy Spirit came upon them, and the Holy Spirit filled each of the 120 people there. We need that, every day, all the time. What is the greatest prayer topic? You don’t need to ask to get this or that. “May the power of God completely control me.”
2. Filling of the Holy Spirit
1) Seized by the Holy Spirit – Filled with new wine (Acts 2:13)
And when these members were filled with the power of the Holy Spirit, others were making fun of them stating they were drunk in Acts 2:13. This spirit, this holy Spirit filling, is similar to being drunk. If you are drunk, then you are not in your right state of mind. Even if you hit a wall, you don’t feel pain. That’s what happens when you are really drunk, that is not your own strength, that is the power of alcohol because the alcohol will numb our brain. The moment we’re drunk, all of our worries and concerns seem to stop, that’s why people go into drugs and alcohol because that’s the only way they can temporarily numb their pain. We cannot solve the problem with that, we must receive fundamental strength. We can only overcome that if we receive the strength that comes from heaven and the throne of heaven.

(2) Holy Spirit made them listen (Acts 8:29)
(3) Holy Spirit made them look (Acts 3:4)
What does it mean to be overcome with the Holy Spirit? It means the Holy Spirit completely takes over my thoughts, my heart, my conscious, my subconscious, my body. In order for that to happen, you must let go of everything you’re relying on. You must completely entrust yourself to Christ. In order for you to float in the ocean, you need to completely entrust your body to the water, but if you’re flailing to survive, then you will drown in the ocean. In the same way, Jesus Christ has finished all of our problems on the cross, so if we completely entrust our lives to Him, with the filling of the Holy Spirit. What happens if you are filled with the Holy Spirit like this? For people who drink alcohol, you know what it feels like to feel drunk, all of your worries go away in that moment, and that’s the reason you keep on drinking. In the beginning, it used to be enough to drink one bottle, but now you need more and more. In the past, you only drank once or twice a week, but now you have to drink every day, why is that? Because we cannot protect ourselves from the stress, the burdens, the attacks from Satan, and the scars we’ve received from the world, there is only one option, it is Christ, Who is God. and the spirit of Christ, which is the Holy Spirit, completely taking over me. You entrust yourself completely, so with the Holy Spirit, it takes over your spirit, soul, and body. We call this “faith” because without faith, you cannot entrust your life to the Lord. The more you lack faith, the more you hold onto your own life.
Then Satan will know this and will begin to work upon you. It might seem you are worrying, but that’s not it. It’s actually Satan that is placing something into our thoughts. Satan makes us think, “You are the master of your life, you lived your life however you want. We’re all just going to live and die anyway, so do whatever you want.” That’s how people commit suicide as well, they think, “I”ll just end my life on this earth. It may seem like we are the ones speaking these thoughts, but actually it is Satan giving us these thoughts. Why would men like men, why would they like them romantically and sexually? That is not them, it is an evil spirit that has given them these thoughts. Then of course, our emotions followed, but these individuals say, “I’ve had these thoughts since I was young, I’ve been attracted to men since I was young.” It’s not that you actually like men, but it’s Satan who has placed those thoughts inside of you from your family background, and that is connected to your family line, family background. That is why it must be Christ. The churches of America try to replace Christ with getting money, but if you want to get money, it’s better for you to get into another religion; it’s actually better for you to become Jewish, or it’s better to become Mormon because they will give you a stipend, so it’s actually better to go to another religion, it’s better to succeed, and you can go into a satanic religion, but this is not what Christianity is all about. It’s about our precious spirit. If my spirit is alive, then everything comes to life. I’m giving you a message as a pastor but I’m actually speaking to you as a witness. If you receive spiritual strength, then everything else comes to life. When I say “Everything comes to life,” I’m sure you’re thinking of success, but do you really have to succeed? If you need to, then you can, but you don’t need to because you’re already successful. There is no greater success than being with God.
Heaven is already guaranteed and I have a reason and a mission to live on this earth. I have a reason to live because many people will live through me. WhetherI have money or not, that doesn’t matter to me. Because whatever I need, God will provide. If you send it all, then God fills it again; but if you don’t spend it, you’re just trying to save it for yourself, then God does not refill you, because you’re trying to control your life; you don’t need room for God to work. If you are trying to control your children, you aren’t leaving room for God to work. You have to entrust your children to the Word of God, and you have to wait and see how God works. God is living, even now. He is answering our problems. And the resurrected Lord is working in us as life. May today be the time for you to receive the filling and the power of the Holy Spirit. Even right now, if you pray in faith, then God’s power will come upon you. Then, you will think the thoughts of the Holy Spirit and see the things of the Holy Spirit. Because the Holy Spirit will take over your thoughts and your emotions, then instead of speaking your own words, we can speak the words the Holy Spirit gives me. And people will come alive through those words. When the Holy Spirit gives you those thoughts, then you think your thoughts.
The devil will make you hear other things, or the demon will make you see things, too. I’m telling you the opposite situation so you can understand spiritual things. Or, the devil keeps telling you these things like, “Kill yourself, kill yourself.” That’s not you; that’s a different spirit, but when the Holy Spirit comes upon you, you will continuously receive the words of life. Because that is what God is like. How can you tell the difference between an evil spirit and the Holy Spirit? The Holy Spirit doesn’t just work; it works with the Spirit of God. John 14:26 says the Holy Spirit is the advocate, who will be with you forever. In John 14:17, he says the spirit is the spirit of truth. Evil spirits are evil, they are the spirit of lies, they continuously lie, and they make you lie thinking, “I don’t need to live. That’s a lie, I’m a child of God, I have a mission to do world evangelization. But the devil will prevent you from hearing these words. The devil will make you live like that and die, and even your next generation hold onto this and then die. Of course, he doesn’t just say, “Die,” he makes it so that you think your life will be okay like this, but how can you live relying on money? How do you hold onto success for life? We’re not animals; we must hold onto the almighty God.
Those are the great thoughts and those are the healed thoughts. I’m not somebody who has fallen; God is with me, and the Almighty God is with me, and the almighty God leads my life. Whenever you pray, pray for the Holy Spirit to fill you, then it will be just like you’re drunk. Even if you’re surrounded by problems like mountains, it doesn’t afflict you. Even if you have a physical disease, it doesn’t affect you because the disease is simply the disease, but I am with God. That is the person who is filled with the Holy Spirit. If I don’t have money, then that’s just that; God hasn’t given me money. Later on, God will give you money because God is the One to create something out of nothing. When I have problems in my life, when I look at the problem, it’s not a problem. When I had a problem and I was limited by myself, it was a problem, but if I have the power of God, it’s not a problem anymore. That’s what happens when you are filled with the Spirit of God. The greatest prayer topic is praying, “God, completely fill my spirit, soul, and body with Your Holy Spirit.”
2) Bible
(1) Joseph who had the Spirit of God (Gen. 41:38)
There are a few people in the Old Testament who are like this. Joseph was only 17. How was it that he was dragged to the superpower nation of Egypt as a young adult, but he moved the entire nation. In Genesis it says, “Who can we find one in whom is the Spirit of God like this man?” He said he was filled with the Spirit of God. It means that God was completely controlling his heart, his mind, his emotions. That’s the key because God does not just give that to Satan. The Holy Spirit works for those who have God’s mission. If I’m busy doing my own work, the Holy Spirit has no reason to meet with us, but the Holy Spirit of God, works upon those who are doing God’s Work. So, if you want to believe in Jesus, either you have to be smart or you have to have faith. Who are the people who have the hardest time in faith? The people who are not that intelligent including myself, but also who lack faith; they cannot live their walk of faith.
(2) Elisha who asked for a double portion of the spirit (2 Kings 2:9)
Elisha only asked one thing from Elijah, and that was to be filled with the Holy Spirit.
(3) David who prayed to not have the Holy Spirit taken away (Ps. 51:11)
After David assaulted Bathsheba, he prayed, “Do not let Your Spirit leave me,” because even though he knew he is King David, without the Holy Spirit, he has nothing. God took the Holy Spirit away from King Saul, and then what happened? We go to a fortune-teller, that’s what happens to people because humans are spiritual. He goes to a fortune-teller, but that’s the way for us to die. There are even some Christian pastors who go to fortune-tellers, they go to a demon-possessed fortune teller and ask them, “Where can I plant a church to become successful?” You might find that laughable, but even among pastors, there are some who lack spiritual knowledge, so they go see a fortune-teller. Why would we have to get out of their way? Then, they tell the members of the church to run away from fortune-tellers or shamans. How can we live in the world like that? Jesus Christ says, “I have given you power to overcome all the power of the enemy. I will give you the authority to cast out demons.” Why is the church talking about evil spirits? What else should we talk about? Should we talk about success? Should we talk about morals and ethics, like what the Buddhists say? That’s not what the church does. The church is the place that delivers the spiritual answers. The church is the place that reveals the problem of America through the Word of God. The church is a place that reveals the deepest problems of mankind through the words of the Bible. The church and the Bible reveal how we must live in this world.
3) Holy Spirit
(1) Proclaiming the Word (Acts 4:31)
(2) Testifying the gospel (Acts 10:38)
Then when the Holy Spirit works upon them in Acts 4, they deliver the word of God. There are some churches that say, “When you receive the filling of the Holy Spirit, you’ll have dreams or you’ll see things,” but those are just gifts. The Holy Spirit is just the spirit of truth. The spirit relays the Word of Jesus Christ. Any Holy Spirit that doesn’t have to do with the word of Christ is an evil spirit. There are some people who go to Christian churches and get possessed by evil spirits because even if you’re possessed by evil spirits, you can speak in tongues, even if you’re possessed by evil spirits, you can heal diseases, that’s what hasamans do, and monks, can speak in tongues and cast out evil spirits.
(3) Healing those oppressed by the devil (Acts 10:38)
How can you cast out evil spirits without the Holy Spirit? Evil spirits who are more powerful can kick out the evil spirits, just as with humans, if there is an adult, they can kick out a child. So, if there’s a more powerful evil spirit, they can make other weaker, evil spirits go away, but Christ is the name that breaks down the authority of Satan. When we are filled with the spirit of Jesus Christ, then evil spirits cannot approach us. Everywhere you move, the evil spirits know this and will run away. It’s just that we’re not interested in that. But if you are aware of this and then go into the field, try going into your job or your school, being aware of this fact. Evil spirits don’t work randomly; they work through people, then that person will be broken down, but right now, people are living their walk of faith without any of this knowledge. If you take the spiritual knowledge out of the Bible, then you’re only for physical things, and because we have spiritual ignorance, we fall into spiritual powerlessness. We are people who must heal people spiritually but we cannot do that.
3. People who gathered from every nation
1) Multitude (Acts 2:6)
(1) Came to hear the Word (Acts 2:6)
(2) Heard in their own language (Acts 2:8)
(3) Understanding the Word through the working of the Holy Spirit
It says this Holy Spirit came upon each individual. When the Holy Spirit worked, 15 nations were connected and gathered in Mark’s upper room. This is God pulling them by His works. Every time we worship, there are people of other nations who gather. These are the doors of missions and evangelism. God did not call us to the church for any other reason other than missions and evangelism, through the working of the Holy Spirit. If you don’t know about missions and evangelism, you will be seized by the world. If you are centered on “me,” or if you’re centered on “us,” you will be seized by the devil. Why are there continuously problems in your family? Because you only care about “me” and “my family,” even spirits work. But if you’re centered on Christ and missions and evangelism, then evil spirits flee. That’s why missions and evangelism are only possible with the filing of the Holy Spirit. Why am I going to school? Why am I going to work? For missions and evangelism. But if I only care about my job or my studies, then evil spirits work. For us, our job must be used to save people of all nations. Then, the power from heaven will continually be upon that person.

(3) Judea – Jews
(4) Cappadocia, Pontus, Asia, Phrygia, and Pamphylia – Turkey region
(5) Egypt
(6) Cyrene, Libya – Africa
(7) Rome – Italy (Jews, Judaism)
It’s written here that people gathered from 15 different nations. It means that people from Iraq, Iran, Turkey, Egypt, Africa, they all gathered in Mark’s upper room. So, from the very beginning, the Holy Spirit works for world evangelization. If you’re living in America and you only gather with Korean people, I don’t think that’s the work of the Holy Spirit. That’s just like the Jewish people who only meet with Jewish people and have no interest in saving the Gentiles. Then, there’s one method God uses. He gives you a problem in your family, why? For you to discover the gospel so that you don’t just care about saving your kids, but others’ kids. Every family has a different time schedule that this takes and there’s evidence in the Bible. Every time the Israelites lost hold of the gospel, they became slaves of another nation, and God restored them back to Israel every time they restored the gospel and their mission. If you lose hold of the gospel and your mission, you will be taken over by the demons of America. There’s only one way to be set free, only Christ, only world evangelization, only the Holy Spirit. Then, everything will change, and until you come to that answer, God will allow that problem to remain with you. “Other churches don’t say this,” but what’s what the Bible tells us, and that’s how God works upon me as well, so I’m telling you this as a witness of things in the Bible. Then, nothing will matter.

A problem will not be a problem, it will be a blessing, because I have a greater power, and I’ve seen something greater, so these small things are no longer a problem. Something might have been a problem for you as a kid, but now that you’re an adult, it’s not a problem. When I go back to Korea, sometimes I go back to visit my old elementary school. In the past, it felt so big, but now, it feels so small. The gymnasium that seemed so big when I was little seems like it fits in my hand now that I’m an adult. But the “me” when I was younger, is the same “me” as an adult, what’s the difference? Now I’m a mature adult. If you hold onto the gospel, world evangelization, and the Holy Spirit, then you will spiritually mature. Your scars will no longer scar you, and from that point on, depression will no longer afflict you, and the past state of addiction you were relying on, you will no longer rely on. In the past, we were obsessed with money and success, but now God gives you those answers naturally, because you are the same you, but spiritually you are the summit. Even physically, if you become the president, everything follows you. If you become the spiritual president, everything follows you. You are already in this victory, so may you see that throughout the week and testify of it.

Let us begin praying holding onto the Word we’ve received.
Offering Prayer and Newcomer Blessing
God, we thank You. We were dead, enslaved by Satan and sin, but You have given us true life through Jesus Christ. Even after we believed in Jesus Christ, we continued to live according to our thoughts, our desires, and our plans, and we thank You for changing us through the words of Jesus Christ towards world evangelization. Now, allow us to go beyond ourselves and in the direction of proclaiming this gospel to the entire world. Please give us the filling of the Holy Spirit every day for this work. So, allow us to be witnesses who save not only ourselves but our regions and everyone around us in this world.
We have returned Your materials as offering. We pray You will work with the blessing of the economy of light to do world evangelization upon the hands that have given the offering. May this be the offering that breaks down the curses of darkness and poverty. We pray all of this in the name of our living Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
God, we thank You. We have given our first worship together, and we pray that this Word of God and the work of the Holy Spirit will be fulfilled upon Peter. And we pray that You will give him the filling of the Holy Spirit every day so he may devote the rest of his life to the work of saving people. In Jesus Christ’s name we pray, amen.

Now may the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the unending love of God, and the indwelling, working, guidance, and fellowship of the Holy Spirit, be upon the heads of all the people of the kingdom of God, the people of all nations, and the future generation who desire to hold onto only Jesus Christ, only world evangelization, only the filling of the Holy Spirit, to save all nations and all people, be upon all their studies and their fields, be with them now until forevermore and always, amen.
