God’s Righteousness and Faith (Rom. 3:21-31)

Let us bless and greet one another, “Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the Living God.”  Through today’s worship, may God’s blessing from heaven be upon you.  The title of today’s message is, “God’s Righteousness and Faith.”  Today’s worship will be a time to confirm if your life is in the same path that God wants.  As we live our life, we need to confirm if our life is in the path that God wants or not.  That needs to be aligned with God at that moment.  Then, after that, everything you are doing follows after.  If there are any of you who are sitting there in worship, holding onto the work of the world, I hope you will let go of that because the Bible tells us that the works of the world cannot be first, they must come after.

First, we must confirm through worship if our spiritual state is walking with God; then with that, we must walk the rest of the week with God.  We’ve been receiving the Word that, whether Jew or Gentile, there is no one who can satisfy God with their righteousness, by following God’s Law.  From the perspective of people, they might be able to say they are better than other people, but from God’s perspective, they are not better.  So, people should not be your standard, but instead, God’s Word should be your standard for you to check if you are going in the right way.  God’s standard for human beings is that there is not a single person who can satisfy Him.

1. All people

  1) All have sinned (Rom. 3:23)

Today’s scripture says that all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, that is the standard for mankind.  The “sin” that it’s talking about here is the sin of not believing in God.  The result of not believing in God is sin, curses, disasters, and it results in hell.  These are all problems that come from not being aligned with God.  Then, in order to heal our lives fundamentally, we need to confirm if we are aligned with God or not.

    (1) Standard of the works of the law (Rom. 3:20)

    (2) Cannot be righteous (Rom. 3:20)

    (3) Fall short of the glory of God (Rom. 3:23)

All human beings are like this, that’s why Romans 3:20 says that no one will be declared righteous in God’s eyes, meaning no one will be righteous from God’s perspective.  This is God’s righteousness being revealed.  Now, apart from the law, the righteousness of God has been known to which the Law and the Prophets testify.

  2) Righteousness of God has been made known (Rom. 3:21)

    (1) Law and the Prophets testify (Rom. 3:21)

    (2) Believe Jesus Christ (Rom. 3:22)

    (3) This righteousness is given to all who believe (Rom. 3:22)

The Law and the Prophets in Rom. 3:21 is referring to the Old Testament of Moses’ Pentateuch and the Old Testament prophets.  This is all in the faith of believing in the offspring of woman, Jesus Christ, from Genesis 3:15.

  3) Redemption of Christ Jesus (Rom. 3:24)

Rom. 3:24 says that this faith in Christ Jesus has redeemed us.  This word, “redemption,” means He has bought us with the price of His blood.  The fact that He has bought us means that He has already fulfilled everything, He has paid it.  The price for sin is death, and Jesus Christ Who has no sin, paid the price of death on our behalf, so all of our sin has been transferred to Him.  That is how Jesus’ righteousness has been given to us.  So, whoever believes in Jesus Christ, they become the righteousness of God.

Through today’s message, I need to confirm whether I am going down a path that is righteous in God’s eyes, or if I’m going down a path that God views as unrighteous.  What’s important is not how people look at me, but whether God sees me as righteous or not.

    (1) By God’s grace (Rom. 3:24, Eph. 2:8)

We have received that, all are justified freely by the redemption that came by Christ Jesus,” that means they have received God’s grace.  Eph. 2:1 says that He has saved us, who were dead in our sins and transgressions.  For anyone who has left God, their spirit is dead.  If someone is dead, how can they believe in God’s Word?

    (2) Freely (Rom. 3:24)

They need to receive God’s grace first, they receive God’s grace freely.  That means we cannot buy this with anything we consider valuable.  Freely, we were given this without price.  We have been called righteous by faith.  Where does faith come from?  God Himself is faith, God must give us His faith by grace.  We have no faith.  Because we have Original Sin, the only thing we have is disbelief, of not believing in God, and that’s why we must receive God’s grace for us to start believing in God from that point on.  Human beings are born in a spiritual state that is separated from God, so they were born debating what is right and what is wrong until the day that they die, but only God can decide what is good and what is evil.  But after humans ate the fruit of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, they believed they were like God, and they judged what is right and what is wrong.

That’s evidence that the spirit of Satan is inside of us.  Satan does not tempt you with nonsense words; he asks you, “What is right and wrong?”  If we argue what’s right or wrong, do we really need God?  Nobody is asking what God thinks is right or wrong, we only wonder what we think is right or wrong.  So, if you meet other people who think like you, you make a group together.  Look at politics, they gather groups of like-minded thinkers and fight against others.  That’s the world.  Inside of the family too, and at church, and at your job, that’s why humans have no choice, because everyone thinks that they’re right, but in God’s eyes, they’re wrong, and that’s why their lives keep falling apart.  Everyone is walking down the path of corruption and destruction, but they think they are going down the right way.  They are being destroyed without even knowing their future.  The evidence of that is, they are not going down the path of peace.  Instead of asking, “What is this in God’s eyes?” I only judge what is right or wrong in my eyes.  We need to go out of that spiritual state.  If I am God, then that itself is dangerous.

    (3) Justifies those who have faith (Rom. 3:24,26)

What is it in God’s eyes?  Is this good in God’s eyes?  What did God command of us?  The Law says to love God and to love humans.  Are you walking that path?  I think more people will be focused on their physical needs and their business, but the Bible tells us to first seek God’s Kingdom and His righteousness.  Anything you’re interested in will follow afterwards.  Depending on what is first in your walk of faith, your life will change.  Do I love God?  How do I know?  God is His Word.  How close are you with the Word of God?  Even with your friends, if you have a best friend, it means you are closest to them, and that is how you categorize your friendships.  Even with a husband and wife, you have a close relationship.  Same thing with our relationship with God, how close is that relationship?  That is that person’s spiritual state.  There are even friends who don’t even like each other, but they are far away from each other; that’s the state of their relationship.  How close am I with the Word of God, Who is God Himself?  Am I in a state that is always meditating and going forward with God’s Word, or am I living with my own thoughts and standards of what is right and what is wrong? Depending on that state, fruits will follow.  People who go with their standard of what is right or wrong will, without a doubt, face the fruits of division and conflict, but they don’t know this because they think that they’re right, but they must be right in God’s eyes.

What is right in God’s eyes?  The gospel, the Word, that’s the only thing.  So, throughout the week, ask yourself, how close are you with the Word of God?  How are you living with God?  Then, by God’s grace, we come to believe.

2. Law of faith

  1) Faith

    (1) Not the law that requires work (Rom. 3:27)

That’s why Rom. 3:27 says we have no more reason to boast.  If we kept the law on our own actions, we would have something to boast about, but there’s not a single person who can do that.  That’s why it’s not about actions, it’s about faith.  There are some people who ask, “Well, is all that I have to do is believe?” That person is actually only interested in money.  Because the goal of this person’s walk of faith is physical blessings and material gain, they say, “Oh, is all I have to do believe, then what am I going to get out of that?”  For those people, I hope you will quickly change.  The goal of our walk of faith needs to be from God’s perspective.  Am I aligned with God?  We cannot be aligned with God, that’s why by believing in Jesus Christ, God has called us righteous.

    (2) To Jews, the circumcised (Rom. 3:29, 30)

We can never be righteous by our actions, but by God’s grace, He has given us the faith to be called righteous.  This doesn’t matter if you’re a Jew or a Gentile, because the standard is not the Law; it is faith.

    (3) To Gentiles, the uncircumcised (Rom. 3:29, 30)

Whether you are circumcised or uncircumcised, it doesn’t matter.  Everyone who believes, that is the Word God has given to us.  Then, what is the core of this Word?  It’s the Ten Commandments, love God and love people.  If you always live with this standard, then you will be aligned with God.  If you do not have the love of God and the love of people but you live according to morals and ethics, then you don’t need God.  By loving people, the morals and ethics should naturally take place, isn’t that right?  By loving people, your business should naturally take place, that’s the business that God does.  By loving God, my service to church should naturally take place.  “Loving God”? What does that mean?  If you look at other people, you can see how they love God.  There are some people who say, “I love God,” then they rightfully will love other people.  If you live your entire life with this standard, you will be aligned with God.  Even when you’re at work, if the reason why you’re at work is to love people, then you will be aligned with God.  Why are you making a family?  Is it for your own convenience or benefit?  Then your family will be destroyed.  You have to go in the direction of loving people.  In order to do that, you must be able to love God, that is why we must receive God’s grace.  Every day, every week, we must receive God’s grace.  That is what it means to receive love from God.  Someone who is loved can love.  Someone who does not know God’s grace does not understand love, so they will always fight.

  2) Faith

    (1) Do not nullify the law (Rom. 3:31)

    (2) Uphold the law (Rom. 3:31)

In the final verse, the Apostle Paul asks, “Do we, then, nullify the law by this faith? Not at all! Rather, we uphold the law.”  This is very important so I hope you will place this in your heart. The Law does not go away.  However, things like the laws regarding sacrifice and offering and tradition, those have been fulfilled.  Because those laws were set up as shadows to testify of Jesus Christ, now that Jesus Christ is here, they are fulfilled.  However, the Ten Commandments do not go away, because through the Ten Commandments, we can know who God is, because when we say the word, “God,” how do we know what that refers to?  “Do not serve any gods other than God,” then you know His inner nature.  “Do not make for yourselves an idol,” so that is what God is like.  “Obey the Sabbath,” this is what God wants.  “Honor your father and mother,” oh, this is what God wants for people.  “You shall not covet your neighbor’s belongings,” oh, this is what God is like.  This law is good, but because we are not able to keep the law, God sent us Jesus Christ.  So, then by believing in Jesus Christ, God is just allowing us to be called “righteous,” so He has clothed us in the clothes of Jesus.

    (3) Not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen will disappear from the Law (Mt. 5:18)

So whenever God looks at us, He looks at us through Jesus’ actions on the cross, so does that mean that the law goes away?  No.  Now that Jesus Christ lives inside of us, it is actually solidified even more.  Because we don’t have the ability or power to keep the law on our own, the Lord has given us the Holy Spirit.  To walk with the Holy Spirit means we are continuously led in the direction that fulfills the Law.  That “Law” being easily divided into the love of God and the love of people.

  3) Law

    (1) Ability to recognize sin

    (2) Jesus Christ can keep the law

    (3) Gain righteousness of keeping the law by faith

So what does it mean to be led by the Holy Spirit?  It means being led in the direction of loving God and loving people.  If you never lose hold of this your entire life and you remember this, you will realize what the guidance of the Holy Spirit is.  However, because we are people who have eaten the fruit of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, Satan will deceive us with what we think is right and what we think is wrong.  It’s not about what is right or wrong; you need to look about what’s right or wrong in God’s Word.  Then, you will walk down God’s path of righteousness.  That was David.  God leads me down paths of righteousness.  He never laid a hand on his enemy, Saul, why?  The question is not whether David did right or wrong, David followed God’s Word.  Right or wrong?  We entrust that to God.   Even if that person treats me like an enemy, I do not have the right to judge.  The only thing I can do is forgive that person and raise them up, then, what’s going to happen later?  God raised David up later, and God destroyed Saul later.  That is the path of righteousness God has given us.

People live their walk of faith worrying about, “What’s going to happen to my business?  What’s going to happen to my children’s school?” And yes, those questions make sense, but you’re worried about something that should naturally follow after, so you’re not aligned with God.  The only thing you should worry about is, am I loving the Word or not?  Am I meditating on this Word, day and night because it brings me so much joy? If I hate God, then can I meditate on Him day and night? But if I love the world, I hope to think about the work of the world day and night.  May you meditate on the Word of God day and night.  What does that mean?  It means the Word of God is always the standard.  For those people, they will bear fruit, then, the works follow.  They will bear the spiritual fruits and physical fruits.  If that takes place, you will see people as precious.  But if that does not take place, you will just use people.  Because I’m centered on myself, the other person is just a tool for my advantage, but you’ve actually lived without knowing that’s a sin.  How important are people?  When God created man and woman, He created them in God’s image.  “Made in the image of God” means that we were made to be with God, created to reveal the nature and the characteristics of God, His glory.  So, if we’re not able to glorify God, it means we are not able to be with God. For this person, God has blessed them.  That blessing means the ability to worship and to serve Him.  You shouldn’t understand these words with the things the nonbelievers use in the world.

What is the greatest blessing? Worshipping and serving God.    Don’t you think that if you become the president, you’ve gotten the physical blessings?  Don’t you think that working in the president’s cabinet would be a physical blessing?  Serving with God personally is a blessing, that worship is a blessing.  When we say, “Worship,” it is not just worship when we are gathering here, but also, when you go out into your field, you are also worshipping and following God.  Then you will be fruitful, abundant, rule over and subdue.  Ruling over and subduing means, over everything on earth.  The “things of earth,” all the things of nature. For example, things like money.  The natural world, the animals, conquer all of that, but instead, you’re worshipping idols, you’re worshipping the money, you’re worshiping the people, why?  Because of money. Then people making images and idols of and worship have been destroyed.  Humans are created to meet with God, but they’ve lost hold of that blessing, so they’re worshipping things God made.  Everything in this world has some monetary values.  You can buy anything with money.  In the past, they did not have a universal currency, so now we do, so you can buy anything you want in the world with money.

Will you love God or will you love money?  Those who are worshiping, are you worshiping God or are you worshiping money?  If you’re worshipping God, everything else you will rule over and subdue, but if you are worshipping money, then curses and disasters will follow. You must confirm this through worship.  Then, you can know the path of God you must walk for the week.

3. Holy Spirit

  1) With me

The Spirit of Jesus Christ is with me, the Holy Spirit, then what must we do?  We must act following the Holy Spirit.  Not following my own thoughts, but following the Holy Spirit’s guidance.

    (1) Fully met according to the Holy Spirit (Rom. 8:4, Gal. 5:16)

Romans 8:1 says that the Romans of the law will be fulfilled in us.  You’ll keep going in the direction that fulfills the Ten Commandments.  You are going in the direction that thinks people are precious and saves them, but what happens if, instead of loving them more, you hate people more?  That’s normal in some sense.

    (2) Requirement of the law fully met in us (Rom. 8:4)

That’s why it’s impossible for us to fulfill God’s law.  That’s why Jesus Christ fulfilled the Law, and only by living with Him, can He fulfill the Law in us.

    (3) Serve by the power of the Holy Spirit (Phil. 3:3)

Phil. 3:3 says that, when you serve the church, serve it within the Holy Spirit.  Without a doubt, if you serve without the Holy Spirit, you will be tested by that.  That affliction comes from the standards you are holding onto.  Because you’re doing it with your strength, and that other person is not doing anything.  Then, of course, you’re going to criticize that person.  Or, because you did accomplish this with your strength, there is a time for you to boast about that, that’s why we must serve with the Holy Spirit.  This is not only inside of the church, it’s the same thing at your work.  You must save it by the Holy Spirit, then money will rightfully follow, but we’re not doing this for money; we’re serving by the Holy Spirit.  We serve in the direction that loves and saves people.  Loving the church means loving your neighbor.  Then, without a doubt, God’s Work of the Holy Spirit will take place.  Joseph went to Egypt and brought 70 of his family members, and back then, it was family, but now, that is the church.  He saved them.

Where does strength come from?  The strength that God gives you has to save the church, and Joseph saved Egypt and the world.  Without a doubt, there is an order God uses.  Christ is the head and we are the body, and we must love and raise up one another.   We are the body.  If you don’t do this but you think about the gospel, then you’re fake because the gospel is Christ.  What is Christ?  He is the head of the church, and people are the body of the church, but if you’re holding onto the gospel that doesn’t save the church and doesn’t save people, then the gospel you have is fake, and the fake gospel means you’re only saying the words.  That is just you logically forcing the gospel to make sense.  The gospel is Christ, Christ is the head of the church; do you love that church?  That is the standard.   No matter what else they say about the gospel, they’re wrong.  If you don’t regard your church as your neighbor or as your body yourself, then you have the wrong gospel.  If you believe in Christ, then of course, you talk about the gospel, but what is it actually?  Loving God means loving the church which is the body of Christ.  Same thing with your family.

How can I know if I have the gospel?  Do you love your spouse, do you love your children? If you keep hating them, that’s not the gospel.  You just have a gospel that you understand on your own; it’s not actually the power of the gospel.  By the cross, the spirit of Jesus Chris lives inside of me, which means that now, He moves in the direction that fulfills His Law. . There is a group of people who only focus on salvation, they only say at the cross, “I am safe, I am saved, I am saved,” in other words, they just say, “It’s the gospel,” and they stay stuck there. But now that you’re saved, how will you live going forward?  That’s just a theoretical gospel, you need to quickly get past that.  Now that you’ve received the gospel, your life must be dead.  If we don’t have the purpose of living with God and receiving the guidance of the Holy Spirit, then we’re just talking about the gospel, we don’t have the power of the gospel.  Then, people debate about what the gospel is, but in their personal life, they have no power to show. Then, 20-30 years pass, and they don’t have the strength to raise others up.  All they do is judge people, “That person is wrong, this is right, only I am right,” that is a different spirit.  If the spirit of the gospel goes into you, then you save people.  It’s not about what’s right or wrong, your spirit must change onto the side to save people, why?

  2) Guidance of the Holy Spirit (Gal. 5:18)

Gal. 5:18 says to receive the guidance of the Holy Spirit.  If you’ve received the gospel, you must now receive the guidance of God, but you don’t receive that at all.  You only receive the gospel, and after that, you only do whatever you want to do.  That’s not the gospel.  You must receive the guidance of the Holy Spirit.

    (1) Word upon thoughts, heart (Jn. 14:26-27)

John 14:26-27 says the Holy Spirit places the Words of Jesus Christ into our hearts.

    (2) Does not gratify the cravings of the flesh (Gal. 5:16)

So, if you concentrate on the Holy Spirit, He will teach you and remind you of the words of Jesus Christ, then you will no longer live, gratifying the cravings of the flesh, meaning you will not do whatever you want to do.  You won’t follow your emotions or your thoughts.

    (3) Fruits of the Holy Spirit (Gal. 5:22-23)

You are bound to receive the guidance of the Holy Spirit following God’s Word, then after that will absolutely come the fruits of the spirit.  Whether the fruits are the right fruits or the wrong fruits, it will ultimately be the results of the life you’ve lived.  How will they be revealed?  You yourself will be changed in three ways.  The way you interact with others will change, so your human relationships are changed, your relationship between husband and wife will change.  Your relationship with coworkers will change at work.  The way you regard God will change.  These are the fruit of the Holy Spirit.  What a tremendous blessing it is.  This is completely impossible by our own thinking and abilities.  These are the fruits that come from walking with Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit.

  3) Filling of the Holy Spirit (Ac. 1:8)

Now, we must receive the filling of the Holy Spirit of Jesus Christ.  To be filled with the Holy Spirit, I must let go of my own things. How can I let go of my thoughts? That’s what Buddhists say, and the transcendental meditation that the world talks about.  They try to get rid of their greed, can you get rid of it?  You cannot.  That’s why Buddhist monks will try so hard to get rid of their greed, but they cannot.  How can we?  We must get rid of it by faith, we’ve died on the cross with Christ, but now, I must live with the thoughts of Christ Who lives in me.  From that point on, you’ll understand what the filling of the Holy Spirit is.  Not filled with my own thoughts, but may the Holy Spirit completely fill and work upon my thoughts, emotions, and will.  If you don’t live your walk of faith like this, then what will happen?  You will face a result like Joseph.  You’re going to face something unfair.  His older brothers tried to kill him, and by God’s grace, Joseph escaped death.  He was sold as a slave to Egypt.  If you don’t receive the filling of the Holy Spirit, then that’s going to be so hard to bear.

So, depending on whether you are filled with the Holy Spirit or with the spirit of Genesis 3, “Is it right or wrong,” this will change your life.  If you are filled with the spirit of ”Is this right or wrong?” then your brothers will become your enemy.  “How can they almost kill me, if they believe in God?” then you will want to kill them.  So it doesn’t matter how much you resent God.  You must receive the filling of the Holy Spirit.  In Genesis, Pharaoh said, “Who can we find who is filled with the Spirit of God like this man?”   Because he was filled with the Holy Spirit, he was able to realize that, “You did not sell me to Egypt, but God sent me to Egypt.  I wasn’t thrown into prison because of Potiphar’s wife’s unfair accusations, God is the One Who sent me to prison.  It’s not that I became a governor, but actually God made me the governor to save my family and Egypt and save the whole world.”  This is the way your thoughts and your heart will change if you are filled with the Holy Spirit.  Paul was in prison, but he wasn’t.  The prison was actually imprisoned by Paul, because there’s a work that God was doing in the prison.  How is that possible?  It is only possible if you’re filled with the Holy Spirit of God. That’s what it means, the filling of the Holy Spirit.

Before Elijah was taken to heaven, Elisha gave him one prayer request.  A lot of people are not interested in the prayer topic, they’re more interested in, “How shall I pray?” Because in this world they don’t have God, so they look for the best method, “How can I do this best?”  But the Bible doesn’t tell us that.  The Bible tells us what to pray for.  So, Elisha asked Elijah, “Give me a double portion of your spirit.”  Do you not know how to pray?  That means you do not know what to do.  Then, you cannot have a solution. What prayer does God want?  I hope you will pray to receive a double portion of God’s Holy Spirit then you will receive the fruits like Elisha.  I do not gain the fruits from my own upright actions.  Instead, the fruits of the Holy Spirit take place by the works of the Holy Spirit that fulfill the Law.

Daniel was anointed with oil and the anointing that was on King Saul left him.  Sault’s death was pitiful, because God’s Holy Spirit was not with him, he fell into his thoughts, and not only him, but his entire family line was destroyed.  Even for a saved child of God, they are like that, completely physically destroyed.  But when David was filled with the Spirit of God, he even overcame Goliath.  It wasn’t by his own strength.  It was because he was with God and the battle is in God’s hands.  God is the one who allows us to win the fight against the world.  We’re not fighting against people, this is a spiritual battle.   It is a battle against disbelief, against the devil, against evil spirits. Without doubt, God must fight and guide you.  Once you win, the fruits will follow.  When you receive the filling of the holy spirit, you receive the fruits like David.  The members of the Early Church were a gathering of powerless people.  But when they received the filling of the holy spirit, they changed.  They even changed to Rome.

    (1) Power (Lk. 24:49)

So, for you and I today, what do we need?  We need the Holy Spirit of God to completely fill our spirit and mind.   If you receive the filling of the Holy Spirit through prayer even once a day, you will bear fruits.  Then our lives will go in the direction of loving people.  We don’t break people down.  If I have something that’s right in me, I will use my righteousness to kill someone else for their lack of it.  But you shouldn’t go to church like that, but people say, “We have to stand in front of the Truth!”  But that’s just your truth.  What is God’s truth?  We need to save everybody through the cross, that is what it means to love people.  In the future, what path must we walk?  If you’re wondering, “How can I make a lot of money?” That’s the wrong path, that’s what the world says.  “How can I succeed?”  That’s wrong.

This doesn’t mean, “Don’t make money and don’t succeed,” but is this the path that saves people?  The success that follows this love is the true success.  And the money that follows that love is the true money.  That kind of blessed person needs to have money and have people around them in order for them to be blessed.

    (2) To the ends of the earth (Ac. 1:8)

    (3) Witness (Ac. 1:8)

In conclusion, every day, follow the Word the Holy Spirit gives you.  Every day, receive the answers to prayers within the filling and working of the Holy Spirit.  Every day, in the stream of missions and evangelism by the Holy Spirit. This is the work that the Triune God is doing even now.  This is what happens when you follow the guidance of the Holy Spirit inside of me, Who has completed the Law.   Throughout the week, may you walk the path of God’s righteousness and faith.  May you and I have victory.  Let us pray holding onto the Word we have received today.  What kind of path am I on? If it’s on the wrong path, may you quickly correct it, and may you resolve to go down the right path.  Let us pray.

1. Every day, follow the word the Holy Spirit gives
